About me
Thank you for taking the time to read this webpage. My name is Jonathan Emeruwa, I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist of African Asian descent, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, adhering to their professional ethical guidelines and framework. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Masters in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies.
I have been working as a counsellor since 2005 with adults, children and families having previously practiced bereavement counselling at City and East London Bereavement Services, addictions counselling at Brent Alcohol Counselling Service and currently manage the Place2Be children's therapeutic services at 2 primary schools in North London.
I have also worked at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust in a specialist diagnostic unit, children's ward and A&E setting for over 13 years working directly with people who have experienced emotional and physical problems and illnesses within the health sector.
I am aware of the challenges that we face in our lives and the importance of acknowledging and accepting our differences such as ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and disabilities and feel it is important that therapeutic support is available to everyone regardless of our background.
My approach to working is both integrative and person centred/humanistic. This means I use all my skills to help you understand how you may feel about your difficulties, incorporating different psychological strategies and models to comprehend your experiences, then working to see how to overcome these barriers and become more aware of your own potential through self actualisation so you can achieve what you need to become the best that you can be.
In order to do this it is my aim to create a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to explore and process your thoughts and feelings which in turn may also lead to further personal work such as developing deeper insight and awareness, traversing out of fears, making sense of loss, building confidence and resilience, goal setting, preparing for life stages, cultivating happiness. Rest assured this will be your time and space where I will work alongside you with respect, consideration and compassion.
In my spare time I enjoy meditation, and exploring the beauty and tranquility of the natural environment through acoustics. I am also a sound designer producing ambient soundscapes and music as the composer for "Angakut Recordings," creating immersive music for healing and meditation.
